The name "Kajiado" is derived from the Maasai word "Orkeju-ado," which translates to "The Long River." This refers to the seasonal river that flows through the town, which was a vital water source for the pastoralist Maasai communities long before urban settlement began.

For many years, Kajiado Township functioned under larger outreach programs. However, as the population surged: Decentralization: The church eventually became the "Mother Church" for the region, leading to the creation of the Kajiado West and Kajiado East administrative blocks. Infrastructure: The construction of the modern sanctuary marked a shift from a rural mission outpost to a significant urban parish.
